Organize Your Closet
What You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Level
- Power drill or screw gun
- Pencil
- T-square or ruler
- Pre-cut melamine which can be round from a lumber yard or home improvement store
- 1/2" x 3/4" base shoe
- 1x2" furring strip
Instructions
Measure the width of the closet from interior wall to wall. Divide that by 2. This is the center point where your new dividing shelf will be placed into a 'sideways T' position.
Then, measure the length of the closet from the bottom of the top shelf to the floor of the closet. Call in your measurements to the lumberyard. Ask for 3/4" melamine. Pre-fabricated panels are 16"x 8'.
Begin assembly by drilling from the top of the existing closet shelf and attaching the new 'sideways T' divider. Attach the bottom of the divider using 1/2" x 3/4" base shoe.
Connect the horizontal shelves to the 'sideways T' divider using a power drill.
Make a ledger for your shelf. Affix a piece of 1x2 furring strip to the wall of the closet, giving the shelf a place to rest. Check to make sure it is level.
Attach the inner shelf to a ledger system.
Mount the brackets into predrilled holes and attach the new rods.
Attach a curtain rod and new curtains for easy access into your new closet.
